Melrose Abbey

Melrose Abbey was of the Cistercian order.  Like most of the border abbeys it was ravaged during the wars with England.  The Abbey was attacked and burned by the troops of Henry VIII in 1544.  The Abbey and it's possessions eventually passed to the Buccleuch Family.  Melrose Abbey is most famous for being the burial place of the Heart of Robert The Bruce.  The ruins of this Abbey are very beautiful and it is well worth a visit.  For a more in-depth history of Melrose Abbey click here.
